Two children’s books have caught my eye with their whimsical illustrations.
The Taschen Fairytales of the Brothers Grimm features 27 stories including the classics Little Red Riding Hood, Sleeping Beauty and Snow White. Illustration styles range from bold technicolour renditions of castles to delicate papercuts. This charming rendition of the The Hare and the Hedgehog dressed in early nineteenth century garb is particularly appealing.
The Penguin Thread series feature sculptural embossed book covers by illustrator Jillian Tamaki who created this sumptuous design with hand embroidery for Frances Hodgson Burnett‘s The Secret Garden.
